Where are you now?

See the world. It’s more fantastic than any dream.

– Ray Bradbury

Known for the date they were first sighted by European explorers, this chain of 74 mostly uninhabited islands was named for a holiday celebrating the start of summer and the traditional wearing of white. But christened more than a century before the international date line was formally recognized, their name was off by a day.

Arriving at these crystal-clear waters you’re entering a national park and part of the world’s largest living ecosystem. But while the islands are home to exotic plants, animals and birds, you’ve likely traveled here for the world-famous beaches, stunning views, sailing and underwater sea life. Or perhaps you’ve come to visit the nearby cave paintings from indigenous tribes dating to a time when the islands were still attached to the mainland.

Known today as a tourist destination, tourism came slowly to this corner of the world as 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of the most famous resort in the islands.

Reid and Robie ask, “Where are you now?”

Send us the name of the island chain, and we’ll post the winner with the next Where are you now? quiz.

The answer to our last Where are you now? quiz was Krakow, Poland answered correctly by Shirley Ward. Congratulations, Shirley!
