With dramatic landscapes shrouded in clouds, the Isle of Skye is a nature lovers’ paradise. Seals, puffins and otters play in pristine bays while deer, cows and sheep roam the land. An ancient place filled with castles and clan history, this is the misty isle of Scotland’s Inner Hebrides.
When Robie mentioned to a friend’s mom that we were booking an apartment in Scotland for the summer, she wondered if we planned to visit the Isle of Skye. Little did Robie know she owned an old, stone cottage that was once a former schoolhouse turned into a five-bedroom vacation home.
In July we spent a week at the remote property waking to the sounds of small herds grazing and lingering past dark to watch orange flames dance in the stone hearth. When the weather permitted, we hiked to castle ruins, took walks on rocky beaches and strolled to a nearby village. Mostly, we whiled away the long summer evenings in front of big bay windows watching the ever-changing scene across the bay.
